Deepika Padukone, who was down with malaria in London, had a reason to cheer up.

The actress who is shooting for Sajid Khan’s Housefull was given a week off for recovering from her illness by the thoughtful team. Deepika took advantage of the holiday and called her family over to London to spend some time with her.

The actress doesn’t get to spend enough time with them and can hardly go to meet them in Bangalore where they stay.

They had also come to visit her in Bangkok when she was shooting for Chandni Chowk to China. She, however, doesn’t want to call them to boring places. She believes they should have fun whenever they visit her.

Baba Ramdev and Sambhavna Seth are at loggerheads. In a 'mock courtroom drama', which took place in a television studio the fiesty item girl shocked baba with her candid questions that no one would ever dare to ask.

Here’s a peek-a-boo into what transpired when the duo met:

Sambhavna Seth: You say item girls spoil the youth. Yet, you invite Mallika Sherawat and Shilpa Shetty for your yoga events. You even felicitate them.

Baba Ramdev: (No answer from the Yoga Guru)

Sambhavna Seth: I don't find anything wrong with gays. My friend is gay. I will send him to your ashram. It remains to be seen if you can cure him. Let's hope you don't become one.

Baba Ramdev: Gays are mentally sick and I do not support them. I can never change. And I have cured all major illnesses, including cancer.

Sambhavna Seth: Why are you always talking about sex and sambhog? Where did you learn all this?

Baba Ramdev: (Stays mum; is shocked by the question.)

Sambhavna Seth: Is your beard and hair natural? Do you colour them?

Baba Ramdev: They are absolutely natural.

Sambhavna Seth: I have immense respect for you but I don't agree with everything that you say.

Baba Ramdev: Thank you.

A very grownup conversation with 12-Year old Balika Vadhu sensation Avika Gor.

Avika, how has Balika Vadhu changed your life?
More people want to talk to me. You are calling, aren't you? Now you're my friend.

Nope. I am your fan.
Ha ha. I love the attention. I love meeting new people.

What about your friends and teacher in school?
They tell me not to cry in Balika Vadhu. Because when they see me cry they feel sad.

Yeah even I cry?
Really ? You shouldn't. That's Anandi the character crying. Not Avika.

Avika, you've become an overnight star with Balika Vadhu.
Have I? But it isn't my first serial. I earlier did Rajkumar Arryan, Chalti Ka Naam Gaddi and Karam Apna Apna.

But none of these made you a household name?
Haan, I agree. Thank you.

How can anyone so small be so talented?
Issmein kaun si badi baat hai? It's my father, and the writer of Balika Vadhu and my director Siddharth Sengupta. All of them taught me to do the right thing in front of the camera.

You talk like a 40 year old
But I am just 12. You don't believe it? It feels great to be called a star at this age.
Who are your favourite actors?
Shah Rukh Khan, Shahid Kapoor, Hrithik, Kareena, Katrina, Deepika….I like them all.

And guess who's my favourite? It's Avika.
Sacchi? She talks too much, don't you think? Avika makes people cry and laugh. If you meet her please tell not to make Anandi cry and laugh. Pucca bolna.

What do people call you Avika or the girl in the serial Anandi?
Neither. They call me Nak-chadi chuhiya and Bindani. That's a bride on the Rajasthani language.

How many hours do you shoot for Balika Vadhu? Do you get to do fun things?
Sab kuch karti hoon main. Yes, I do miss school sometimes. But I bring my school books on the sets and study between shots. I go to school in the mornings and then I shoot for 7-8 hours.

An 12-year old girl working for so many hours?!
It's hardly anything because 2 hours is set aside to sleep and study. So that's only five hours of work. Even at school I've to put in that many hours of work, no?

And I can always have my friends over on the sets when I want to play with them. Otherwise I play with the crew members of my serial.

So Balika Vadhu is like school?
No it's fun. Acting is my hobby.

So what do you want to be when you grow up?
Miss Universe

In the meanwhile?
Tab tak padhaai karungi, films karungi, sab kuch …

What about the brat who plays your husband?
What about him? He's nice. No we don't fight at all. We study and play together.

But doesn't he pull your hair?
That's Anandi's hair he's pulling, not Avika's.

Who are your friends?
Everyone in Balika Vadhu. My Saasu-ma, my mother, Anoop Soni Uncle…they all love me immensely.

Do you watch television?
Yes, whenever I get time. I love Balika Vadhu and everything on Cartoon Network.

Do you watch Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi?
Sometimes. I like it. Every serial has something different to offer.

Do you know your Balika Vadhu has effected Kyunki Saas…?
Really? That's good to hear. But aisa nahin hai ke, people don't watch those serials any more.

But they watch Balika Vadhu more?
Acha hai na? (giggles).

It seems you'll have to work in Balika Vadhu for a long time.
I'm really happy for that.

I'm also doing very small roles in two feature films Paathshaala and Morning Walk with Anupam Kher, Sharmila Tagore, Rajat Kapoor and Divya Dutta. These were signed before Balika Vadhu.

You're very sweet. Don't neglect your studies.
I promise.

We all know Rani Mukerji has been going through a rough phase for two years now. All her films that released in that time period, from Laaga Chunari Mein Daag to Ta Ra Rum Pum to Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic, flopped.

Maybe her stars are behind this, you never know. Therefore, unwilling to take any chances is director Aditya Chopra who has decided to release Dil Bole Hadippa only after September 9, which is when Rani’s bad phase will end.

Right now, Rani will only be seen in Dil Bole Hadippa, working only with Yash Raj Films, which is why her career depends on it.

According to sources, she has been going through an unlucky period for two years and it will end on September 9. Aditya Chopra originally wanted to release the film by the end of August or the first week of September but has now postponed it to a later date.

He doesn’t want to spoil Yash Raj Films’ newly resurrected state (after New York) and is therefore taking Rani’s stars into consideration. Maybe, things will work out for the best after the wait.

Emraan Hashmi is not just frustrated, he is also terribly hurt. He would have thought that after a hearing at the Minorities Commission Office on Monday, the matter around an alleged discrimination by a Housing society had finally come to a sane resolution.

However, that doesn't appear to be the case as he is continuing to face some (unwarranted) flak. He is being accused of 'back tracking' from his earlier claim of 'discrimination' by claiming that the entire 'controversy' arose due to some 'miscommunication'.

"All this is so disappointing", rues Emraan, "A certain section of the Press has given a statement stating that I back tracked from my word. Sorry, I never back tracked. I did have all the reasons to believe that I was discriminated by the Housing society on religious grounds."

It was being stated that Emraan Hashmi took a U-turn by claiming that there was after all no discrimination against him.

"No, that's not the case", Emraan sticks to his guns, "Yesterday we had a hearing at the Minorities Commission Office. In this hearing, I stuck to what I had said a week back that I had reasons to believe that I faced discrimination by a Housing Society on religious grounds. And I am saying this on the records. I want to clear the air once for and all."

Apparently, the Minorities Commission wanted to resolve the issue peacefully. "Who wouldn't want that", questions Emraan, "It's the right thing to do. Even the Commission felt that that the matter was blown out of proportion and had been widely politicized. The best way to handle it was to follow a peaceful route."

It is expected that the final verdict would soon be announced by Mr. Abraham Mathai of the Minorities Commission. "I abide and respect whatever they have decided. I agree 100% with their verdict.

Even the Society members and the Owner have stated that maybe there was a miscommunication. They have also claimed that they had not denied me the flat on the basis of my religion. That's good", Emraan heaves a sigh of relief here.

There were also murmurs that his parents had misbehaved at the Society meeting on 26th July'09. "Give me the names of the people who told you this. Why don't people come out and openly make such statements?

Not a single Society member has stated so. I am shocked at such accusations when nothing like this happened at all, " he sets the records straight.

Kangana Ranaut is known for playing heavy duty roles in films like "Gangster" and "Fashion", but the actress has now signed on her second light-hearted movie "Tanu Weds Manu".

The fun film, directed by Aanand L. Rai of "Strangers" fame, has Kangana paired with R. Madhavan.

"It was after much deliberation that Kangana was finalised for the role. The character that Kangana would be playing in 'Tanu Weds Manu' is such that it is of paramount importance to get the casting right, " Rai told.

Kangana, who has played a traumatised women in most of her films, was signed on for her first comic role by Anil Kapoor for his production "No Problem", a comedy directed by Anees Bazmee.

Before venturing into comedy, Kangana did a series of serious films.

While she was haunted by ghosts in "Raaz - The Mystery Continues", "Fashion" had her playing a supermodel who fell to drugs and abuse. "Life In A... Metro" showed her in a turbulent affair with a much married boss (Kay Kay Menon), "Woh Lamhe" had her play a schizophrenic while in "Gangster" she played an alcoholic moll to a gangster (Shiney Ahuja).

Director Rai, however, is confident that she will pull off the role in "Tanu Weds Manu".

"Yes, I have studied her filmography quite closely and I know for sure that 'Tanu Weds Manu' would finally showcase Kangana in a different light. There is a definite humour to the film which thankfully is poles apart from life vs death roles that Kangana has played in the past, " he said.

Explaining the reason behind finalising Kangana, Rai said: "When I was narrating the film to her, she came across as someone who was very passionate and energetic when it came to films. Moreover, what worked for me was the fact that she was taking a personal view on the subject. Now that's the kind of girl I wanted for the film since I wanted her to add something of her own to the character as well."

But before Kangana, Rai had approached Konkona Sen Sharma but she couldn't accept the offer due to date problems.

"There were genuine date issues due to which Konkona couldn't come on board. We are looking at shooting the film in the months of September, October and November but she is unavailable then. However, I'm happy about Kangana now being signed for the film since she and Madhavan coming together would be really special for the film."

Rai had earlier made "Strangers", a thriller that had Jimmy Sheirgill and Kay Kay Menon.

"After working on 'Strangers', it is nice to be working on a light-hearted entertainer with a sensitive love story at its heart. The film has an interesting soul while going well with the commercial aspects of things. I would be travelling across my locations through the next few days and begin shooting in September, " he said.

The filmmaker said his movie would be shot in places like Lucknow, Kanpur, Faridkot, Patiala and New Delhi.

Ranbir Kapoor as Rocket Singh - Salesman of the Year has got some sizzling company now. We hear that Shimit Amin has roped in Bipasha Basu in a special song in a glam avtaar.

Accroding to a source, "Rocket Singh is a character driven film with no clear lead pair. Suddenly, after they began shooting, the idea of no oomph in the film didn't seem right, Aditya Chopra had a word with Shimit and bounced an idea of an item number with Bipasha in it.

Even though Shimit Amin, the director of superb films like Chak De India and Ab Tak Chhappan, is known for his uncompromising work style, he’s learnt to have capitulated to the Yashraj honcho’s demand and agreed to have the item song on Bipasha in the film.

Bipasha will shoot for the film in two weeks on a set in Yash Raj Studios. A spokesperson for Yash Raj says, "Not true at all." The film hits cinemas worldwide on Dec 11 this year.

Tell us about your film “Toss”
Toss is a story of a group of childhood friends. And how an incident changes the relationships, beliefs, love, trust between all of them. It’s a fast-paced thriller film.

What role you are playing in the film?
I play the character of ‘Shasha’. She sings on the cruise of Goa. She is an extrovert, fun-loving, ambitious girl who believes in herself and wants to achieve whatever she has desired for. Prashant Raj is cast opposite me in the film.

How different “Shasha” is from your other roles played in the past?
Actually, first time I am playing a character like Shasha. I have never played a role like this. Mostly comedy or romance has been my forte. But, Shasha is different and unique.

Did you undergo any training or workshop for the role of “Shasha”?
Yes, I learnt the accent and way of speaking and behavior of Goan girls. All the star-cast attended the workshop before the film shooting started.

What according to you is the U.S.P of the film and what will make audience go and watch the film?
The film has all those elements which the audience wants and loves these days. It has thriller, romance, love, everything. According to me, the U.S.P of the film is the presentation.

Apart from you, there are two more female actors in the film. How was your rapport with them?
We belonged to same age group and therefore had loads and loads of fun on the sets of the film. One can witness the rapport when they go and watch the film.

How was the experience to work with Director Ramesh Khatkar?
It was an immense pleasure to work with him. He is a passionate filmmaker. His dedication comes across from his work.

Which are your upcoming films?
“Daddy Cool” and “Toss” are my upcoming films. And both of these films are releasing together.

How are you feeling when both the films are releasing together?
I am keeping my finger crossed. Let’s hope for the best. I am nervous about the response of the audience.

What kind of role would you like to play- comic or serious?
I love playing all kinds of roles. That brings my versatility across. Being an actor I feel comfortable playing all kinds of roles with several shades. Be it ‘Awara Pagaal Dewana’ or ‘Shoot out at Lokhandwala.’

B-Town has recently seen a flood of firangis making their way into films. Nothing seems to be stopping them then be it the language, the culture difference or the climatic conditions.

In-fact, firag face gives a film an edge over others films, considering the fact- Indians even today are crazy for firangi- divas.

Someone who recently joined this bandwagon is Brazilian girl Giselle Monteiro who was kept under wraps by filmmaker Imtiaz Ali before the release of Love Aaj Kal. Giselle Monteiro started her modeling career at the age of seventeen.

This pretty girl is just one film old with Love Aaj Kal, where she donned the character of old- fashioned Harleen Kaur with such perfection that she would give a run-for-money to any bolly-actresses today in Bollywood.

Let’s peep into the past and list down some fair-skinned-divas who have given some surprisingly amazing performances.

Alice Patten: Her amazing command over Hindi and knowledge about the freedom fighters took our Perfectionist Khan by surprise.

Alice was zeroed on by Rakesh Om Prakash Mehra to play Sue. Alice belongs to Hong Kong and is the daughter of Chris Patten, former Conservative politician and Governor of Hong Kong.

She has some English soap-operas to her credit where her performance has made everyone sit up and look. ‘Heroes and Villains’, ‘Where the Heart Is’, ‘ A Time to Dance’, ‘Not Waving But Drowning’, ‘Candida Oliver-Watts’, ‘ Love Hurts’, ‘Candida Oliver-Watts’ and last but not the least mini-series ‘The Forsyte Saga’.

Rachel Shelley: An ultra-ravishing Rachel Shelly too had a big career in television before she stepped into Bollywood with Ashutosh Gowarikar’s Lagaan- Once Upon A Time In India.

Elizabeth Russell, the British princess falls in love with Bhuvan (Aamir Khan) who heads the team of Indians that got to win a cricket match again British to save a lagaan or tax.

Rachel famous both in television and Hollywood, has done some amazing roles in films like Canone inverso- making love, Everybody Loves Sunshine- Clare, Royce, ‘Wycliffe: Dance of the Scorpions’ (TV), ‘The New Adventures of Robin Hood’ (TV).

Tania Zaetta: The sensational Baywatch and Pizza Porn star Tania Zaetta is an Australian who made her first special presence in Yash Raj’s Bunty Aur Babli.

And there seems to be no end to her Bollywood career, because unlike other divas she continued her B-Town journey with yet another Yash Raj venture Salaam Namaste, where she was paired with Arshad Warsi and Deepak Shivdasani’s Mr. Black and Mr. White.

Shannon Esrechowitz: Beginning with I Dreamed of Africa, Shannon proved her actress prowess with award- winning performances in films like Dorothy Ann Gould's production Japes and Hard Copy, which gave her an edge over others.

This South African diva too came as a pleasant surprise for Indian cine-goers with amazing role of Stephanie- the dream girl of our ‘Chi Chi’ Govinda in Nikhil Advani’s Salaam-E-Ishq.

Rozza Catalano: And last but not the least, Italian model and ex-girl friend of Chote Nawab- Rozza Catalano.

This model turned actress had come with an intention to make it big in Bollywood films. However, her break-off with Saif triggered her desire and eventually she was seen in a sizzling item number in Kamal Khan’s Desh Drohi.

Rozza has couple of movies in her kitty like Ek Second... Jo Zindagi Badal De and Monopoly- The Game of Money, which are on a verge of release.

bipasha

If reports are to be believed, Bipasha Basu will appear as a celebrity judge for a television show in the UK.

Mid-Day reports that the dusky beauty from Bollywood has been positively considering the offer since it is a prominent reality show there. What’s more, if Bipasha Basu does sign the deal, she will get to rub shoulders with some of the most prominent British celebrities there.

"Bipasha is quite keen to be one of the judges on the show which has well-known British names. She is looking at making a mark in the international arena now. As she is extremely articulate, the producers of the show came up with the offer," the paper quoted a source as having said.

Apparently the shows organisers hope to rope in additional Asian audience with Bipasha Basu’s presence as a celebrity judge.

While Bipasha remained unavailable for comment, her agency refused to comment on the matter.

However the source told the paper, "Till everything is on paper, the it is mum’s the word for Bipasha who feels this will be a big high for her career and to get noticed in the West."

Meanwhile, the Mid-Day also reports that Bipasha Basu will host the Indian version of America’s Next Top Model, which will be produced by Shah Rukh Khan’s Red Chillies Production.
